The 'Truth' as you see it!

Back with something interesting...

Exams from 22nd. I don't know what made me post this just now!!! But I had read this few months back and I liked it. I forgot to post at that time so doing it now.;)

According to that article, there is no absolute truth. The article was as follows.

The 'Truth' as you see it!

There is no absolute truth.

The story of a group that gets shipwrecked, with a young woman, a sailor and an old man landing on an island.

The woman sees some movement on a distant island, and suspecting it to be her boyfriend, asks the sailor to take her there. He agrees, on condition that she sleep with him. She turns for advice to the old man, who tells her to follow her heart. She sleeps with the sailor, and he takes her there. Sure enough, she finds her boyfriend and his best friend. The boyfriend asks how she got to him and she tells the truth, at which he wants nothing to do with her anymore. His best friend offers to marry her.

As u identify the best and the worst person in the story, you will explore your own values, and find the 'truth' is different for everybody.

Vachva Jevu

The Attraction Chemistry

The Attraction Chemistry

Attraction: The Quality of characteristic or energy that draws the attention and pulls towards it; is called attraction. It is an instinct, gifted impulse of nature for promotion of existence. It is uncontrollable and irresistible. But what attracts us to one another? Is it his or her looks?
Every day men and women come into contact with each other. Why is it only one person will catch his or her fancy? Some people are physically attracted through their eyes, while others are attracted to someone though all their senses. We are all different.

But what determines these preferences? For the purpose of this article I will use the attraction of a man to a woman. Who might he be attracted to? At first sight, he might notice the overall shape of her body.

His attraction to her may include the overall package. He may be drawn to her facial features first. Everything about her is pleasing to his senses. But bio-chemistry tells a different story. According to a group of scientists,”We instinctively select mates who will enhance the survival of the species”. The process of finding the perfect mate involves series of conscious and unconscious determinations made by the brain and body of the organisms seeking to reproduce.

One of the key elements that stimulates our brains in order to attract a mate is a hormone known as pheromones.( the word Pheromone comes from Greek origin from the word Pheran, meaning to transfer and Horman, meaning to excite.) These hormones are found all throughout the animal world and help to influence sexual behavior. Humans are no exception. Everyone, both men and women, create pheromones to some degree (some more than others). What are Pheromones? Pheromones are invisible, odorless chemicals that originate in the apocrine glands of the skin located in the axillae(area under the joint connecting arm to the shoulder) of the armpits and pubic region and are secreted through our skin with sweat and other bodily fluids. The purpose of pheromones is to induce either a biological or behavioral response in other people. For the longest time scientist thought that pheromones were only found in animals because humans were too advanced to rely on such a basic instinctual method of attracting a mate. But research throughout the years has since proven that theory wrong. Mammals, which includes any warm-blooded animal that has fur and gives birth to live young rather than laying eggs, have a special structure inside of their nose called the vomeronasal organ ( or VNO). This is a small bulbous organ with lots of blood vessels and is highly sensitive to smells. The human nose has a VNO but it doesn’t exist in the same functional form as other mammals. In fact, sensing of human pheromones occurs well below the level of human consciousness. Signals that pheromones are being released are subconsciously picked up and then sent to the hypothalamus region(It manages the basic drives and emotions.) of the brain. Most of the time, humans are not even aware that pheromones are being released. Men and women both have pheromones. However, the chemicals in each gender are different. There are two main chemicals which are different: androstenone and copulin. It is these two chemicals which the brain processes unconsciously which cause a physiological and behavioral change in others. The chemical androstenone is the primary pheromone found only in men.( Other secretions are also derived from testosterone and androstenol.) It is responsible for increasing the ‘animal attractiveness’ of a man as well as bringing about an increase in the luteinizing hormone (or LH) in a woman. The increase in a woman’s LH will cause a woman to have a heightened sexual response to a man. For the other gender, the chemical copulin has been identified as the primary female pheromone. When copulin is secreted into the area around a woman, it brings about a surge of testosterone in men. The end result is that a man will have a heightened sexual response to a woman. It is reported that when two individuals in the presence of each other are secreting pheromones simultaneously the sexual attraction is impossible to ignore. Our nose simply is not capable of detecting the odorless scent of pheromones (The chemicals behind attraction). Pheromones not only affect feelings of attraction and desire, they also seem to affect people’s general impressions and assessments. People with high levels of pheromones have more attention paid to them and are generally well-liked by members of the opposite sex.

While men and women both emit and are affected by pheromones, females unknowingly respond to these chemical signals when searching for a partner. Most females swoon over the looks of handsome men, with defined muscle and beautiful symmetrical facial features, but fail to realize that attraction does not solely revolve around physical attributes: "it's not how you look on the outside but what's on the inside that counts". ;-)

There has been recent evidence produced that shows that humans are likely to have an unconscious pheromone-sensing nose to match the conscious odor-detecting nose. What is more is that research has shown that certain male and female steroids activate different parts of the human brain depending not just on the smeller’s sex but also on the smeller’s sexual orientation. The pheromones from male act as an emotional stimuli and also carry an array of markers that can identify a particular male’s Major Histocompatibility Complex(MHC). MHC is the cluster of genes that play an important role in immune function.

By choosing opposite allele(either of the pair of alternative forms of a gene) types in the MHC the female is ensuring the energetic investment made by her nine month gestation period will result in a viable and healthy offspring.

Hence we can say that the complexity of relationships is not completely under the control of an individual but it also remains under the grip of chemical signals.

A Visit to Chiranjeev- 6th August 2009

6th August 2009

Hello friends...
Today was a different day for me...(kyu? dekhte hai aage...)
Slept at 3am last night.
But woke up early today morning. (Woke up at 9:30am!!!) Thanks to my childhood friend, Abhimanyu.
I completed the daily morning activities and went to canteen to have that "nashili" tea with some healthy breakfast.
Then we came back to the room and I switched on my laptop, plugged the evdo, connected it to server, opened the browser, punched in the web address (www.jagteraho.co.in) and dammmm.....
The server went down for the next 1 hour...

Pankaj came to the room at 10 and he told me about Chiranjeev.
Chiranjeev is an NGO which runs in M.G.Science institute. The mission of the NGO is to teach the poor children whose parents cannot afford tuition classes (for more details about it contact Pankaj Pal).
He told me that the condition of this NGO was bad these days. It needed some help. So we decide to visit it today in the evening.

Then Pankaj went to the college to pay his annual fees. And Nikunj came to the room. Luckily now I was able to connect to the internet through the EVDO. Now it was time to do some official work. So started with the current project of Surgistar. I and Nikunj did the work till it was lunch time. I saw the time and said "Lunch Time"(this reminds me of the days when we worked in einfochips on their website www.einfochips.com. As the clock ticked 1 o'clock Nirav, the marketing head of Einfochips, used to say "Lunch time guys". I really miss those days.)
So again we went to our famous Canteen and had fried rice with "Nikunj's Dhaba". Pankaj also joined us at the canteen with "Pankaj's Dhaba. We completed the lunch. I and Nikunj returned back to the room. After having lunch an afternoon nap was necessary. I woke up with Pankaj's sms "Come to Nescafe". We went to Nescafe and there we met Zeal who was coming with us to Chiranjeev. As per the planning we went to Chiranjeev. It was deep inside the campus of CEPT University. On entering the class room I saw around 11-12 kids of different grades and 2 volunteers doing their best to teach them.
I saw a boy, sitting in a corner of the class and reading the chapter on Kiran Bedi of English Textbook of 9th Standard. I sat beside him to help him. To explain him I had to translate all the difficult words in Gujarati. (Believe me. This is really a difficult task if the subject is English. Once I had done such translation in 12th starting. I had translated the first 2 chapters, Point and Line, of Maths-1. We did not get any text books of English medium in the first few months of 12th. We only had one Maths-1 text book, that too of Gujarati Medium. So I used to translate all the questions in the exercise. That was easy because it was Maths. But to give exact Gujarati synonyms to a 9th standard guy, studying in Gujarati Medium is really a tough job.)
I also met a girl who was in studying in 6th standard. She was struggling to remember the spelling of “Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen.” Reason: The technique to teach the spellings was wrong. They were just given the spellings of 1 to 50 and were told to memorize them. I tried to help her out by breaking the spelling into parts. This proved a bit helpful to her.
I also met another girl from 6th standard. I asked her the tables (ghadiyo) of 5, 7 and 8. She started and completed it without a single pause. But on asking “What is Baavan (52)?” No answer. The reason behind this was: the volunteers told them to mug up the tables written in their books. They never taught them.

Our main aim for visiting this was to help Chiranjeev. And by seeing all this I am really eager to do something which would be beneficial to these kids. In this 1 hour visit we noted all the weak points and the areas which needed improvements. Then we went to CEPT campus and sat there under the trees and discussed what all can be done to help Chiranjeev. And with a strong determination and huge sets of ideas we “called it a day”.

This was what made my day different from the other days.
Those who read this and are willing to help Chiranjeev, contact me or Pankaj.

Ok, guys now it’s time to check mails so I will end it up here…

Thank You.

The LD College Cleaning Day-30th July 2009

30th July 2009- The LD College Cleaning Day("Deep ki aankho se")

Today was another important day of my life. I was in deep sleep at 7:00 and i got a message from one of my friends that Jagteraho article was published in today's City Bhaskar. I was too excited but at the same time i was feeling too sleepy. Apart from this i did not have the newspaper so i slept after replying her.

At 9:30, when Amit and Deepak were discussing about their so called "newspaper publicity" after seeing the e-paper version of Divya Bhaskar, i woke up. Immediately i jumped and sat in front of my laptop to see the JagteRaho's column. All of us were happy and were enjoying the "publicity". Then came Pankaj with the hard copy of the newspaper and we started commenting about the article. I never knew that www.jagteraho.co.in was helping in fighting against Ragging.(lols...)I then completed my daily morning activities and then we all went to canteen.

It was 10:10 now. We all had the hot and "nashili" tea of canteen with some wafers. I forgot to mention about the green ribbons we attached with our t-shirts as we were a part of Jagteraho-Nammi-LD Cleaning Group.

After having tea we all went towards the Mechanical Cross Roads.(Thought that every1 will ask about the article, but no one even looked at us...ha ha ha)

Then we went towards the electrical dept entrance where we again discussed the plan for the activity.

Now it was 10:25 and the volunteers started coming up. To our surprise the reporters from TV9 had reached here before 10:30. So we decided to give an interview on our website: www.jagteraho.co.in. We thought amit would be the best one to brief the entire Jagteraho in few minutes. And hence Amit explained them about the site and we managed the other tasks of today's activities.

Now the reporters from other media also started coming and I literally thought that "Ab to college saaf karana hi padega. Masti Masti me reporters bhi aagaye..." Nikunj was busy telling the teams where to go and Pankaj was busy giving them the required materials.

Mera kaam kya tha bas photo pado...!!!

We began sharply at 10:34 after a photo session for Ahmedabad Mirror.

On the other hand amit had finished giving the brief about the site and it was Jimmy's turn to give his opinions. And I knew he won’t be disappointing us....

I was going to the decided places for taking photographs along with the reporters. And was also helping the teams who did not get the materials. We had one and only, Devsi who ran here and there providing the required materials to all the teams.

I really appreciate the teams who went to those places where we don’t even think of going and cleaned up the garbage over there. Especially some of the girls whom I know(Yogita, Jinal, Nama, Zeal, Shailvi, Bhoomi, Khushali), and the others whom I dont know.... Hats off to u all.

Now the bags which we brought to collect the garbage were getting scarce. So immediately Baba and Mr X(I don’t remember his name) went and got some more bags. All the bags were collected behind the canteen. 1, 2, 3, ... it went up to 28 bags full of plastic bags!!!!!!!!!

Now the green college was looking clean...

The whole activity took 3+ hours. Then we had a photo session with the 28 garbage bags with flies over them!!!!

The whole team then had tea and refreshments in the college canteen.

Now it was the time for dumping the collected garbage. So we sealed all the bags and started taking 2-3 bags at a time to the nearby dumping location. (It was the time when I did a little work!!)

Kohail, Pankaj, Harsh, Nikunj, Jimmy and Deep(Myself) were the ones who took these bags, 2-3 at a time on three different vehicles and dumped it a proper place. This task took around 30 minutes and finally the work was over. Really???? The End????

I apologize to all those whose names were not written here and the ones whose names were not written here correctly. I also apologize for the spelling and grammatical mistakes which may have occurred here.

Thank You All of You

Thank You very very much…
